Scott Steckly Racing

MIRABEL, QUE, Tuesday June 7, 2011
Scott Steckly driver of the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was consistent throughout the weekend with the second fastest time in practice, second fastest time throughout qualifying and finished the ICAR event in second. Steckly started the season’s second event at Circuit ICAR with the fourth quickest time in the first practice session, following which, the team went to work on the car making several adjustments. Steckly and the No. 22 team pulled off the second quickest time in the final practice session on Saturday afternoon.

In qualifying, Steckly took to the track with 12 other drivers in the quick qualifier and maneuvered the 2.113 mile, 14-turn road course in a time of 1:37.420 which solidified a front row starting position for Steckly and the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Team. “The track got a bit greasy during qualifying which made;it tricky but we are thrilled with our front row starting position,” Steckly said after he got out of the driver’s seat.

With the drop of the green flag Steckly and Tagliani were side by side battling for the lead with Steckly eventually settling into second. On lap two on the front stretch Kerry Micks dove underneath the No. 22 and bumped Steckly back to third place. By lap 14 Steckly had dropped back to fifth place and was playing it safe and saving his equipment for the final five laps. After a restart on lap 27 the leaders were side by side and made contact in turn 12. Tagliani ended up in the guard rail and Ranger was given a drive through penalty for aggressive driving. With the former leaders now lined up towards the back of the pack, Steckly and the No. 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge moved up to the third position with his sights set on the lead. The caution forced a green, white, checkered finish and Steckly made the pass for second place with one to go, but could not catch up to the first place car of Robin Buck. Steckly took home a well-deserved second place finish at his inaugural visit to Circuit ICAR. “What a great race, we pulled off a solid second place finish and are getting closer and closer to our first road course win, we just need to keep the momentum going and get another win for Canadian Tire at Delaware.”
This weekend’s events at Grand Prix ICAR will air on TSN on Sunday June 12 at 11 a.m. ET
The next stop for Steckly and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be Saturday June 11 at Delaware Speedway in London, Ontario. Steckly is currently first in the NASCAR point’s standings heading into event three.
